| Disappearing Jobs Across America | ||
Ran in: Slate, April 15, 2009 Built with: Flash, Actionscript, XML Description: Using extremely detailed data tables from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, I created an XML file that contained the net year-over-year job gains or losses for each of the 3,100-some counties in the United States, by month. This map represents that data as circles proportional to the number of jobs. Viewers can either hit "Play" to watch an animation of the data or freeze on a given month to explore it in more depth. | Bellwether Election Map | ||

Ran in: Slate's Trailhead Blog, November 4, 2008 Built with: Flash, Actionscript, XML Description: On election night 2008, I used this map to project the winner based on previously announced election results. As Obama or McCain won states, I gave them up-for-grabs states that polls suggested were safer than ones either candidate had definitively won. The map, based on one designed by my colleague Matt Dodson at Slate, is colored by a simple XML file for easy updating. Embedded from Slate with permission. |
